14U AVA Provincials - April 20-21, 2013
Congratulations to our 14U Gambatte and Kaizen Teams whose seasons culminated with their participation in Alberta Volleyball's 14U Girls' Provincial Tournament this weekend. Our 14U coaches have stressed that at this "training to train" stage of long term athlete development, the goals for the season have been to (1) learn how to execute volleyball skills; (2) learn the fundamentals of team play; and (3) have the confidence to take risks in tournament competition by applying things learned in practice. The 14U athletes have worked hard all season and our Club is proud of each of them for committing to our process of volleyball athlete development. This commitment will take them far in the sport. Thank you to the 14U athletes, parents, team supporters and coaches for a tremendous 14U season!

Pandas 18U Athletes Host Japanese High School Team

Mar 24, 2013
The University of Alberta Pandas Volleyball Team has an extensive history and relationships with many Japanese University Teams. We are excited that our PANDAS Club athletes now have the opportunity to build a youth volleyball relationship with Japanese athletes as well. The PANDAS Volleyball Club is very fortunate to be hosting a Japanese High school team (Aizu gakuho High School) this Spring Break. This team was affected by the 2011 tsunami. The athletes and their families endured great turmoil. The PANDAS Volleyball Club has put together an exciting itinerary for these special athletes, many of whom have never travelled outside of their country. Our 18U Gambatte Team will be billeting the Japanese athletes, training at the Saville Centre alongside them, travelling to and touring them around Banff, and participating in the Best of the West Tournament at the University of Calgary with these invited athletes. Our club's coaching staff, parents and business sponsors have pulled together to create what is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience - both for the visiting Japanese athletes and our PANDAS 18U athletes. The Aizu Gakuho team will be arriving this Tuesday, March 26th and our club is eager with anticipation!

Best of luck to all athletes in your volleyball development journey. Finally, THANK YOU to all athletes who brought donations for Edmonton's Food Bank. Your thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed!

Tryout Process:
Our team coaches, along with our club's coach mentors/advisors (including Dr. Pierre Baudin, Laurie Eisler, and others), will be evaluating and encouraging potential club athletes during the tryout process. While the coaches of the respective teams will be making final selections of athletes to their teams, the selection process will be a committee effort. Our committee will be evaluating athletes based on athleticism, upward and future potential, excellence, work ethic, physical testing, and skills. Physical testing will take place on the first day of each team's tryouts. Our tryout committee will be looking for our "future leaders in women's volleyball".

*The U18 teams will be selecting 18-22 athletes based upon the selection committee's recommendations. These athletes will then train together for a month where they will compete in the U of A New Years Classic Tournament (Jan 4-6). Once the tournament is complete and the coaches feel they have had adequate time to assess all the athletes, the athletes will then be divided into two teams. If more time is required, more time will be taken. The Pandas Volleyball Club wants to ensure that the right decisions are being made to foster the greatest amount of opportunities for athlete development and high level competition.

Athlete Information Form:
Our coaching committee will be formulating a tryout evaluation plan based on the number and types of athletes in attendance. Therefore, we request that all athletes interested in attending our tryouts fill in our Athlete Information Form no later than Nov 25th (16U and 18U teams - form closed as of midnight Nov 25) and Dec 2nd (14U teams) and then check-in on the first day of tryouts. If you have missed the deadline for the Athlete Information Form submission, please print off and fill in the form attached to the bottom of this post, and hand it in at the tryout registration desk.

Club Meeting:
For those athletes selected to join a Pandas team, we will be holding a Club Meeting on Sunday, December 16th from 3:00-5:00pm at the Saville Community Sports Centre, 11610 - 65th Avenue, Edmonton (in Classrooms 1 & 2 on the second level, just off of the Competition Gym track lanes). Pandas Club athletes and parents are invited to attend.
